Detroit Avenue Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Lakewood, Ohio

In an effort to improve transportation for all modes, the City of Lakewood put Detroit Avenue on a “roadway diet,” reducing lanes in favor of giving more green space back to pedestrians and cyclists. On its south side, the project is a continuation of a bikeway that is part of the Cleveland Metroparks’ Emerald Necklace and Rocky River Reservation. On the north, the streetscape will expand, making room for ample plaza spaces, a comfortable pedestrian zone in its restaurant and retail district, and the addition of street trees and site furnishings that will truly make this an attractive urban corridor. The project will be “classic Lakewood” in its materials and design, paying homage to the city’s history while providing modern touches for its progressive population.

Boulevard Studios is taking on the enhancements design, including hardscape and landscape development, and in so doing is leading cross-collaboration with the City of Lakewood, the Metroparks, and the project’s engineering lead.
